Description
SYNOPSIS W912EP-09-R-0012 Reproduction of Bronze Castings for S-77 Moore Haven Lock, Florida US Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, intends to procure services to provide all labor, equipment, physical facilities, materials, supervision and any other resources necessary to produce castings of bronze bushings and liners for the S-77 Moore Haven Lock upper gates 1 and 3. The Contractor shall use existing casting molds (molds) to cast the bronze parts, except as provide in paragraph 1.5.3. The Contractor shall arrange for pick up of the molds from government facilities, for delivery to the foundry; and for their return along with the castings back to the government warehouse. Description and Identification of Molds. Only molds for the LINER and PN3 are available. They are made out of wood, and packed in crates. Although all efforts have been made to locate and properly identify molds for the lower hinge (LH-1) bushings and upper hinge bushings (UH-1), those could not be found. It is considered, however, that due to simplicity of parts LH-1 and UH-1, a new mold could be used to cast both parts. New Mold(s). If the mold for any part is not available, or if it is damaged beyond repairs, the Contractor must fabricate a new mold based on provided drawings. The mold shall be oversized to allow for waste material according to customary practice within the foundry industry. Material for the mold shall be durable, and easy to storage and transport. The Contractor must provide, in writing, a cost estimate, which shall include time required to produce the mold(s). Castings. The Contractor shall produce two castings each of the lower bushing LH-1, the upper bushing UH-1, LINER, PN3 and PN4 based on attached sketches. Prior to fabrication of the molds, the Contractor shall obtain approval from the COR. Repairs must be performed by the Contractor as soon as possible after receiving the notice to proceed. Material. Material for the aluminum bronze castings shall conform to ASTM B148 Copper Alloy UNS No. C95400. Material for the chromium steel shall conform to ASTM A743. Site visit for interested parties will be scheduled on or about 29 January 2009 to inspect molds. Award will be for a Firm Fix-Price contract with performance upon contract award. RFP W912EP-09-R-0012 will be issued on or about 22 January 2009 with proposals due on or about 19 February 2009. RFP will be issued in electronic format only.
