Description
100 - Desired Product The Shoshone National Forest is compiling a data set of stream reference and monitoring reaches in an effort to better define physical stream channel characteristics relative to the biogeophysical setting. Stream channel reference and monitoring reaches will be referred to as reach or reaches from this point forward. Reach locations are designated based on existing mapped channel types, geologic consistency, valley types, front or back country locations, and anthropogenic influences within both reach proximity and upstream and downstream directions. The purpose of this contract is to field verify electronically mapped stream information, quantify identified reaches using prescribed methodology, and establish permanent benchmarks to ensure survey repeatability. The desired product shall include, for each reach: digital photography, GPS data, and field survey notes. Secondary information that would be useful but is not required includes aquatics notations such as macro-invertebrates (family to specie identification), fish presence and specie identification, and geologic setting (surrounding formations, geomorphology, and rock types). 110 - Scope of Contract The contractor shall use prescribed survey methodology (see Section 210). Approximate reach length shall be between 600 and 1200 feet and will be identified by the Forest Service. For each reach, the Forest Service shall pay the contractor the rate as specified in the Schedule of Items. Reaches shall be coded by their unique sixth level hydrologic unit boundary number, stream name, and valley segment number. The contractor shall record and submit reach data in a Reference Reach Field Book, and all data entered shall be legible and easily discernable. The contractor will also submit bar sample data, digital photography, and GPS data which has been converted into a cleaned and corrected shapefile (*.shp) format.
