Description
The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) is requesting information on an offset printing press for its Miscellaneous Security Products Division in Washington, DC. As part of the market research, the BEP is posting this request for information. This press should meet or exceed the following characteristics of a Heidelberg SM102-5 color plus coater Offset Press 1.PRINTING UNITSThe Press is equipped with 5 printing units plus a coater unit capable of printing the following size images in offset processes at a speed in the range of 3,000 to 15,000 sheets per hour in any color combination of 5 colors on the following sheet sizes:Maximum sheet size: 720 x 1020 mm (28.35 X 40.16)Maximum image size: 700 x 1020 mm (27.95 x 40.16)Minimum sheet size for printing: 340 x 480 mm (13.39x 18.90)Each print unit also has the following design features:Coarse adjustment of circumferential register Fine adjustment of lateral register: +/- 2mmCorrosion-proofed blanket cylinder Anodized impression cylinder with replacement jacket Capability to process paper ranging in thickness from 0.03 1.0 mm (.00012 inch to 0.039 inch )Automatic plate hanging systemUV capable printing and dryingQuick Change PerfectingHicky Picker System 2.FEEDER:Automatic stream sheet feeder with integrated pre-stacking device and pull-type side guide is capable of efficiently changing formats and adapting to many different substrates. Also, included are the following features:Electro-pneumatic monitoring of missing, misaligned and cocked sheetsElectromechanical and ultrasonic double sheet detectors.Preset feeder adjusts the format size and stock thickness changes.1320mm (51.97) feeder pile height. 3.DAMPENING UNIT:Damping unit for each printing unit ensures optimal dampening of the printing plate during wet offset printing process. The following are its additional salient characteristics:Alcohol-free feature provides continuous-filmSpeed compensating continuous dampeningDirect transfer of dampening solutionCirculation and cooling of dampening solutionBridge roller system to integrate the ink train and dampening system.Optional Hicky Picking damping system to remove dirt particles from the printing plate. 4.INKING SYSTEM:Inking system with the capability to precisely controlling the ink-flow parameters by equipping the ink units with the following features:Individual roller train for each print unit A computer controlled ink fountain roller Lateral oscillation of form rollers with variable doctor timingOperator controlled Zero oscillation function Operator controlled Ductor timing functionComputer controlled Console with Closed loop color control for a scanning densitometer. 5.SHEET TRANSFER UNIT:Sheet transfer units are capable of performing sheet transfer function safely and efficiently independent of printing material or press speed. The following are its additional salient characteristics:i.Central setting of side guides on-the-flyii.Delivery fan for exact sheet travel 6.COATER UNIT: The coater unit has the following salient characteristics:i.A doctor blade system with an anolox roller.ii.A clamping system to accept blankets or plates. 7.DELIVERY UNIT:Automatic sheet delivery unit is equipped with the following components and has the following salient characteristics:i.Preset delivery to set the format size ii. A dryer to work with the coating unit.iii.Sheet brake for precise deliveryiv.A nominal pile height of 1295mm (50.98) 8.MISCELLANEOUS DEVICES:The press is also equipped with the following devices:i.Inline adjustable powder sprayer to prevent set offii.Plate punching and bending deviceiii.CE and GS certified status with state-of-the-art safety features 9.OPTIONAL DEVICES: The press can be equipped with time saving features to reduce make-ready time and reduce waste:i.Blanket washersii.Back cylinder washersiii.Presets for the ink keysiv.Ink Agitatorsv.Non-stop feeder and deliveryvi.Scanning densitometer with closed loop systemsvii.Extended deliveryviii.Temperature controlled Ink trainix.Scanning Spectrodensitometerx.Pre-press interface for Cip-3 or CIP4 files for pre-setting ink fountains from prepress filesxi.Sheet vacuumxii.Auto Ink Dispensing System- e.g Cartridge Ink The BEP requests all vendors submit three complete sets of brochures, literature specifications, drawings and/or other information available on their appropriate commercial equipment. Along with the technical information on the equipment, the BEP also requests:AvailabilityTypical delivery time frameTypical cost for such a systemOptional subsystems and componentsOptional capabilitiesAverage production ratesSize, weight space, and utility requirements of equipment. Trenching for the change-over of the perfector is not an option at present. Maximum height in the proposed space is 13 feet-6 inches.Service and Warranties available The BEP is requesting the above data for informational purposes only. All costs, delivery, time frame, etc. is non-binding on the vendor and is requested to allow the BEP to adequately forecast budgets and schedules.This is not a request for proposal. The BEP will not fund to anyone the cost for the generation of this response. The BEP is closed for year-end shutdown from December 24, 2008 through January 5, 2009.
