Description
Winch conforming to following statement of work/description: Specification for CTD Winch - 26 November 2008 The application of the winch will be to perform oceanographic measurements (Conductivity, Temperature and Depth (CTD) in particular) on the NUWC Keyport underwater test ranges in the state of Washington and the province of British Columbia. The winch must be capable of providing many years of service in a marine shipboard environment with irregular usage. Preferred Material of Construction - Marine Grade Aluminum Electrical Power Input - 220 VAC single phase 60 Hz Cable - Rochester Corporation Part Number A301592 or its equivalent shall be provided with the winch with a length of 1640 feet (500 meters). The cable diameter is 0.322 inch 3 conductor #19 AWG double armor with a weight in seawater of 144 lbs. per 1000 feet. Reference the Rochester Corporation data sheet. The cable shall be properly spooled onto the winch drum at the time that the winch is delivered. The winch end of the cable shall be securely clamped to the winch drum, and a weather tight terminal box provided to make the connection between the deployment cable and the pig tail from the rotating portion of the slip ring assembly. This connection shall be completed by the vendor. Winch Drum Core Diameter - 12 inches minimum to meet the recommended minimum bend radius of the cable. Winch Drum Capacity - A minimum of 1640 feet of 0.322 inch diameter Cable Level Wind -A Diamond Screw level wind shall be provided with the winch and timed appropriately for proper spooling of the cable installed. Slip Ring - An IEC Corporation BX-4 Four Conductor instrument grade slip ring assembly or equivalent shall be provided with the winch. The Slip Ring Assembly will be mounted to a Mounting Flange, and provided with a bash guard and an anti-rotation bracket for the stationary section. The stationary electrical connection shall be completed in a hermetically sealed manner and a 5 foot long signal pig tail cable with a bare end provided with the winch. Winch Line Speed - A minimum of 2 feet per second at the drum core Winch Pulling Force at the Drum Core - 280 lbs. minimum rated, 500 lbs minimum stall load. Winch Pulling Force with Full Drum - 200 lbs minimum rated, 350 lbs. minimum stall load. Brake - Electric Fail Safe Brake Capable of stopping and holding the rated load in the event of a power failure. Mounting Method - The winch shall be mounted onto existing threaded pads on NUWC Division Keyport range craft with 5/8" diameter bolts. The dimensions of the pad spacing are shown in the sketch titled Figure 1 with 26" spacing away from the gunwale of the boat where the CTD probe is deployed. Figure 1 would not transfer to this document. Contact judith.walls@navy.mil for e-mail copy of this sketch. J-Davit - A J - Davit shall be provided to allow the overboarding of the CTD probe over the side of the craft. The Davit shall attach to the frame of the winch at the outboard left (facing outboard) corner and swivel at least 180 degrees to allow deployment of the CTD probe such that the center of the probe is deployed 18 inches away from the side of the craft and be capable of locking in the deployed position in line with the center of the winch drum. The Davit shall also be capable of locking in position at both angles parallel to the side of the craft. The Davit shall be removable for transportation and shipping. The Davit shall have a pad eye for attaching a snatch block and sheave. The snatch block and sheave shall be provided with the winch assembly. The lowest point of the block and sheave must be located at least 48 inches above the deck of the craft (base of the winch) to allow clearance for the CTD Probe and its cable connection. The Davit shall have a safe w! orking load of at least 300 lbs. with a factor of safety of at least 5 against yield of the material. The Davit shall be manufactured from Marine Grade Aluminum or Stainless Steel. Controls - Starting and stopping the winch drum, the direction of drum rotation and the speed of the drum rotation shall all be controllable from a pendant mounted remote control provided with a 20 foot pendant length. Any electronic control box needed for the electric motor in addition to the remote control shall be mounted to the winch base such that it does not protrude aft of the winch frame. All control boxes shall be constructed of either aluminum or plastic and be sealed against water intrusion. Lifting Eyes - The winch shall have 4 lifting pad eyes (Crosby P/N 9900217) available for loading and unloading the winch onto a range craft with a crane. Documentation - An owners manual with a minimum of the winch operation procedure, maintenance procedure, parts list and suggested spares list shall be provided with the winch. Fitted Cover - The winch shall be provided with a water proof rain cover for the entire winch except the J-davit. The cover shall be slotted or notched to fit around the davit, and be capable of being secured to the winch with snaps, or Velcro straps.
