Description
A. The following answers are provided to questions submitted in response to this RFI: 1. Can you please clarify the meaning of 'portable repeaters'? We understand that 'mobile repeaters' are to be vehicle mounted, but the meaning of portable is unclear. A: Portable Repeaters are those that can be carried by one person. 2. Can you please clarify the general use of the specified repeaters. Specifically, are the repeaters intended for indoor or outdoor use? A: Repeaters are intended for use outdoors in protected locations, or indoors 3. Can you please clarify the general configuration of the repeaters. Specifically, are the repeaters intended to be used as single units communicating with multiple radios, or are they intended to be used in a network configuration where multiple repeaters are deployed to create coverage over a large area? A: The repeaters are intended to be used as single units with multiple radios. There is no network configuration needed 4. Can you please clarify the RF power requirements of the repeaters, and also the range between units in a multiple-repeater deployment? A: RF power requirements are in the 25 - 35 watt range. Not intended to be used in a multiple repeater deployment. 5. Can you please clarify the power supply for both the mobile and portable repeaters (i.e. battery powered, 110 VAC, 12 VDC)? A: Mobile repeaters are generally 12vDC obtaining power from the vehicle they are in. Portable repeaters should be capable of operating off either 110V AC or 12vDC as available when being deployed. 6. Can you please clarify the total number of RF channels that each repeater is required to transmit? A: Each repeater should be capable of being programmed for up to five channels. However the repeater only needs to transmit/receive on any one of those channels at a time. The remaining channels would be selectable when needed, usually by using the programming software. 7. We have noticed that the spec calls for UHF radios covering the 380-570 MHZ range. Is this a typo and should it be 380-470MHZ? A: The specification was written to cover a frequency range. It does not mean that a single radio must cover the entire range. A vendor can provide multiple radios to cover that range. The multiple radios must be identical types or models, use the same programming software, and the same accessories. Other than frequency range the multiple radios must be otherwise identical in form, fit, function, and feature set. B. This information is provided to all potential offerors to help determine if they can provide the capabilities sought. Accordingly, the RFI response date is hereby extended to Wednesday, 19 November 2009, 04:00pm EST.
