Description
The Bureau of Engraving and Printing is seeking the services of a specialized construction contractor who has an extensive record of proven high quality performance in the restoration and cleaning of the limestone facades of very large, multi-story historic/landmark buildings. The selected contractor will be assigned the task for functioning as the prime contactor for a project to restore and clean all of the limestone facades of the Bureau of Engraving and Printings Main Building, located at 14th and C Streets SW, in Washington, DC. A complete, thoroughly detailed set of faade restoration drawings and specifications for the project have already been produced by a specialty Architect-Engineering firm. The restoration tasks that must be performed for this project includes but is not limited to the following: 1.Provide and erect scaffolding and man lifts to access the facades for the performance of the work.2.Provide site protection to protect the building occupants and the public during construction.3.Provide manpower and materials to perform the work.4.Cut out all limestone and granite mortar joints on the entire building.5.Repoint all limestone mortar joints on the entire building with lime-rich-mortar.6.Cut out and remove all sealant joints on the building, including those at coping stones, reglets, control joints, penetrations and perimeters of windows. Remove lead joint caps.7.Prepare cracks in lime limestone for grout injection.8.Repair cracked limestone with injection grout.9.Repair horizontal cracks in limestone with gravity fed injection grout.10.Prepare limestone for mechanical stitching of cracks.11.Install mechanical stitching for limestone cracks.12.Finish surface of limestone panel crack repairs to match existing.13.Repair broken limestone with pins and epoxy adhesives.14.Face pin displaced limestone panels.15.Dress and prepare spalled and chipped limestone for repairs.16.Repair larger limestone chips and spalls with repair mortar.17.Patch abandoned holes in limestone with repair mortar.18.Remove and reset displaced limestone sections.19.Install sealant joints (excluding sealant joints associated with the window glazing) with appropriate bond breakers and sealants where designated and at all cornices and copings. Install lead joint caps at cornices and copings.20.Stain patching to match limestone.21.Dress exfoliated granite water table.22.Prepare granite surfaces for mortar patching.23.Prepare granite cracks for grout injection.24.Repair granite cracks with grout injection.25.Finished surface of granite panel crack repairs to match existing.26.Face pin displaced granite panels.27.Repair larger granite chips and spalls with repair mortar.28.Patch abandoned holes in granite with repair mortar.29.Repoint all mortar joints in granite with lime-rich-mortar.30.Remove all existing standing seam gutter attachment cleats.31.Rehabilitate all gutter attachment flanges.32.Fabricate and install new flat seam gutter attachment cleats.33.Apply fabric-reinforced, cold-fluid applied waterproofing to all metal gutters and drain sumps. Install additional reinforcement at all corners, seams and sumps.34.Clean all stone on all exterior facades by the water soak method and by using mild cleaners.35.Remove all scaffolding and equipment used to perform the work that is no longer necessary or in use.36.Thoroughly clean up entire site.
