Description
Ocean Ships, Inc.,* Houston, Texas, is being awarded a $27,003,846 fixed-price contract for the operation and maintenance of the eight government-owned Watson-class large, medium-speed, roll-on/roll-off (LMSR) ships. LMSRs are ideal for transporting and prepositioning U.S. military combat equipment and combat support equipment needed overseas for U.S. armed forces. The Watson-class ships will be maintained in both reduced operating status (ROS) and full operating status (FOS). When in ROS, the ships will be maintained on the U.S. East Coast. When in full operating status, the ships will operate in the Diego Garcia and Guam/Saipan areas in support of Army and Marine Corps prepositioning missions. At the beginning of the contract period, there will be two ships in FOS, and the remaining six ships will transition from ROS to FOS during the contract period. The contract includes four one-year options which, if exercised, would bring the total contract value to $220,725,409. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was competitively procured with more than 80 companies solicited and 10 proposals received. The U.S. Navy’s Military Sealift Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity (N00033-08-C-3200).
