- THIS IS A REQUEST FOR INFORMATION AND INTEREST AMONG COMMERCIAL VENDORS. The 551st Electronic Systems Group Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) program office is requesting information from industry for an airborne Iridium satellite network-based data and voice communication system. This announcement requests responses from interested vendors who are willing to present solutions and/or demonstrate prototypes (if available), at no cost to the Government. THIS IS A REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI) ONLY. IT IS NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL, SOLICITATION, OR AN INDICATION THAT THE GOVERNMENT WILL CONTRACT FOR THESE SUPPLIES. THE GOVERNMENT WILL NOT PAY FOR INFORMATION RECEIVED IN RESPONSE TO THIS RFI. The purpose of the system is to provide aircrews with classified Internet access (for applications such as chat) and voice calls to the Air Operations Center (AOC), ground forces, and other airborne platforms.
