Description
Analysis and Desktop Delivery Assessment of the DEA Foreign Environment The contractor will be responsible for performing an Analysis and Desktop Delivery Assessment of the DEA Foreign environment. The Contractor will be responsible for conducting interactive meetings with DEA to review the DEA operational environment, document criticality, readiness, requirements, and risks for each infrastructure component (workstations, servers, communication links, etc). The objective to be accomplished through the conducting of the interactive meetings is to allow DEA and the Contractor to understand the environmental status and considerations for optimization, rollout, and expansion of the Citrix XenServer (formally Citrix Presentation Server), XenDesktop and XenApp to be used during the virtualization of DEA Offices located within Central America and South America. A review of the DEA Foreign environment will enable DEA to minimize project risk and better leverage existing skill sets and tools to be sued to support of the XenApp-Citrix Presentation Server, XenDesktop and XenApp workstation, server and application environment. The contractor will be responsible for developing a Desktop Delivery Assessment Document that will include but not be limited to the following key sections: Section and Description Executive Summary : Project overview, business drivers, success criteria, project phase, and key findings, as well as short-term and long-term recommendations. Business: The business section explains what the goals of the overall business are for the next 3 - 5 years and what IT Projects are currently in the process. End-Points: The users and devices section explains the user requirements of their workstations, the locations of the users and devices, the groups of users, size of the user population and the challenges experienced by the user community. Desktop Delivery: The desktop delivery section identifies how users gain access to their desktops, how they are maintained and updated. Virtualization: The virtualization section defines how virtualization is currently being used within the organization, how virtualization solutions manage fault tolerance and how desktops and applications are currently being virtualized. Infrastructure: The infrastructure identifies the environment in place to support the current and future desktop delivery infrastructure. Items include network, security, and enterprise storage and backend data. Operations: The operations section defines how the environment is managed and maintained to keep the workstations functioning. Items include support processes, testing environment, change control as well as disaster recovery. Desktop Virtualization Design The contractor will be responsible for developing a Desktop Virtualization Design Document that will include but not be limited to the following key sections: Section and Description: Users and Devices: The Users and Devices section define the design decisions specifically related the end users and the endpoint devices. Desktops: This section defines the Desktops that will be made accessible to users of the Citrix XenDesktop environment, including core applications and their dependencies. Characteristics of these Desktops that will impact placement will be explored. Definition of the Desktop Installation mechanisms will be used in order to make Desktops available to users. Desktop Presentation: Desktop Access, Desktop Delivery Controller and Printing Architecture will be defined. Infrastructure: Defines the configuration recommendations for Citrix Licensing and Administrative Consoles, Windows Server and Active Directory, Network Topology, Enterprise Storage and Server Hardware. Systems Management: Systems monitoring, Client Monitoring and Training. Provides design decisions related to monitoring and managing the XenDesktop environment so as to address administration in a proactive manner. Discusses the monitoring and auditing of client sessions. The training environment section reviews information such as end-user training and administrator training and certifications. Building and Testing of the DEA XenApp-Citrix Presentation Server, XenDesktop and XenApp Foreign Environment The contractor will be responsible for: 1. Building of the Test Environment - The contractor will be responsible for building, configuring and making operational the test XenApp-Citrix Presentation Server environment including configuring the servers, databases and authentication services on the servers. 2. Hypervisor Integration - The contractor will be responsible for installing, configuring and making operational the hypervisor and confirming functionality within a XenDesktop environment to include identifying issues, problems and correcting them. This may include upgrading to new code, deploying additional services within the network and modifying settings within the XenDesktop, XenServer and XenApp internal code. 3. Citrix Provisioning Server Integration - The contractor will be responsible for configuring common images for different server platforms within Provisioning Server and developing the High Availability for Citrix Provisioning Server with connectivity shared storage. 4. Desktop Delivery Controller - The contractor will be responsible for defining and planning the architecture for the virtualization of the DEA Internal Network Desktop within the Delivery Controller. Profile and Policy Management using XenApp-Citrix Presentation Server, XenDesktop and XenApp The contractor will be responsible for Profile Management and creating of Windows 2003/2008 Group Polices and Windows 2003/2008 Group Policy Object to include but not be limited to creating and configuring the profile solution for the DEA Internal Network XenDesktop environment including mandatory roaming and customized profile solution for DEA's internal network. The contractor will be responsible for creating and modifying Windows 2003/2008 Group Policy Objects (GPOs) for the OU where the DEA Internal Network XenDesktops are housed including incorporating standard and custom administrative templates. Scalability Testing and Environment Building The contractor will be responsible for: 1. Building of the Test Environment - The contractor will be responsible for building, configuring and making operational the test XenApp-Citrix Presentation Server environment including configuring the servers, databases and authentication services on the servers. 2. Testing of Scripts - The contractor will be responsible for determining application workflows performed by DEA internal network Users including creating and leveraging test scripts to validate desktop viability. 3. Testing - The contractor will be responsible for testing and validating the test data including modifying and re-executing of the test cycles when necessary 4. Extrapolating Testing Results - The contractor will be responsible for documenting the test environment and results, including assumptions, procedures, setup, and modifications in order to consolidate and extrapolate test data to provide scalability recommendations 5. Installing and Configuring XenDesktop Environment - The contractor will be responsible for assisting DEA in creating a XenDesktop environment including required backend resources and necessary network components for the implementation Pilot Implementation The contractor will be responsible for assisting DEA in developing a Pilot Plan for implementing XenDesktop and XenApp on DEA's internal network. The contractor will be responsible for the identification of goals and objectives, pilot users, rollout strategy, and success criteria. The contractor will be responsible for assisting DEA with the executing the Pilot Plan including installation, configuration, integration and rollout the XenDesktop and XenApp environment to the pilot user community on DEA's internal network. The contractor will be responsible for tracking and addressing issues encountered during the XenDesktop and XenApp Pilot including modifying the design and implementation documentation. Production Implementation The contractor will be responsible for assisting DEA in implementing XenDesktop and XenApp on DEA's internal network in Production. The contractor will be responsible for the identification of goals and objectives, pilot users, rollout strategy, and success criteria. The contractor will be responsible for assisting DEA with the executing the production rollout including installation, configuration, integration and rollout the XenDesktop and XenApp environment to the production user community on DEA's internal network. The contractor will be responsible for tracking and addressing issues encountered during the roll outing of XenDekptop and XenApp to production on DEA's internal network including modifying the design and implementation documentation. The contractor will be responsible for delivering and explaining all documentation developed during the Pilot and Production rollout of XenDesktop and XenApp on DEA's internal network. Provide Activity/Progress Status Reports The Contractor shall submit Activity Reports weekly and Progress Status Reports monthly to the COTR.
