Description
The US Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District, has a need to procure professional engineering and design services from DLZ National, Inc (DLZ). Under a previous contract, DLZ performed analysis of the existing middle wall miter gate monolith (M-25) at Charleroi Lock and Dam, Monongahela River, Pennsylvania, in order to determine the feasibility of excavating in the existing river chamber for construction of the new locks middle wall. The previous analysis indicated that the gate monolith M-25 would be stable during the proposed excavation work if both adjacent monoliths (M-24 and M-26) acted together with monolith M-25 to distribute some of the net lateral/shear load on monolith M-25 to the adjacent two monoliths; however, there is currently no project feature in place to carry this load. This contract shall consist of providing all engineering and design services necessary to consider two options for stabilizing the existing middle wall miter gate monolith (M-25) during construction of the new river chamber, and to provide engineering and design services for the selected option. The contract shall consist of two phases. Phase one is for DLZ to develop two options to ensure that there is sufficient means available to distribute some of the net lateral/shear load on monolith M-25 to the adjacent two monoliths. Phase two is for the engineering and design services for the option selected by the Government.
