Description
Description. The microwave-band transmitter/receiver element consists of two units - a wireless encoder/transmitter and a decoder/receiver. Both are compact, weatherproof enclosures, therefore ideal for outdoor, wireless point-to-point applications. The transmitter end connects to a surveillance camera and broadcasts video back to the receiver, while receiving wireless telemetry control signals from the camera control unit. The receiver unit receives the video signal and processes it for viewing, while sending the telemetry control signal from the control unit out to the transmitter and camera. The microwave-band repeater unit is also a compact, weatherproof enclosure that retransmits signals between the transmitter and receiver units when transmitting over long distances or around RF path obstructions. Context. In order to conduct these operations, the SOD must be able to establish reliable microwave-band communications links from the surveillance site or named area of interest back to the command post at the supported agency, ranging from other military units all the way to small, local police departments. Often, the requirement for communication is across large geographic areas or through restricted terrain ranging from built-up urban districts, to heavily woods or rugged mountains; this requirement necessitates repeater systems to re-transmit the signal. Currently, the SOD uses a large variety of camera and transmission systems, selecting those which best fit the operational environment and distance requirements. However, all of these systems are analog-only, which places limits on the picture quality and fidelity; and can only operate in a single channel mode, which then requires a second link for telemetry to allow camera control. Requirement. Digital, duplex-channel microwave-band systems would rectify all of these current shortcomings. SOD requires the system transmit video using either the 2.4, 4.9 or 5 GHz (license-free) wireless band, using AES encryption with at least a 128-bit key, with 4CIF/30fps video quality while maintaining effective throughput of up to 28Mbps. The units must be in weatherproof NEMA enclosures capable of withstanding temperatures from -20ºF to 120ºF and all ranges of humidity, weigh under five pounds each, and consume less than 20W (1.6 A at 12V DC) of power while operating. The enclosures must have RS-422/485 connectors to seamlessly interface with all existing surveillance systems, and should have a built-in, multi-band antenna with an external SMA connection to mount a larger external antenna. The units must run on 24V AC and 12V DC power with supplied adapters and cables. All components must have at least a 2-year limited warranty covering parts and labor.
