- Description
- This is a request for information only. There is no solicitation package available. The Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division Lakehurst is seeking sources that may be capable of producing Glovebox Media Blasters (GMBs). These blasters are used for a variety of applications which include, but are not limited to, paint removal, cleaning, deburring, and surface preparation of different aircraft and support equipment parts and components. There is a particular interest in GMBs that are versatile in using many different types of blast media at a range of blast pressures. Some media that may be used include: plastic, steel, garnet, aluminum, and glass. The legacy GMB used by the USN and USMC is a stationary, direct pressure cabinet that is manually controlled. It removes paint from metallic components by projecting abrasive media in a fluidized stream using compressed air. The standard unit uses plastic media and can be adapted to use other types of media by installing a course abrasive kit. Components to be blasted are placed on a turntable that can be wheeled in and out of the blast cabinet on a track. The operator can manipulate the component inside the cabinet and/or use a gun nozzle to blast the component. Media flow exiting the gun nozzle is controlled with a foot pedal. The legacy GMB also has a recovery and separation system to remove spent blast media from paint and debris for reuse and minimization of hazardous wastes. It also has a contained filtration system that removes dust and potentially hazardous particulates from the exhaust air. This also enables personnel to remove lead base paints and other harmful materials that create environmental and personal hazards if removed with portable blast units. The Government is looking for potential sources for this requirement. All interested parties should send company and/or descriptive literature as well as any comments or questions to Ms. Cindy Scheper, e-mail: cindy.scheper@navy.mil, fax: (732) 323-2359 or address: Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, Hwy 547, B562-3, Code 25211CS, Lakehurst, NJ 08733-5082. All responses should be received no later than 4:00 PM Eastern Time, 18 September 2008. All questions and comments must be in writing; no telephone calls. All contractors seeking award must be registered in the Central Contractor Registration (CCR) Database. For CCR information, contact the CCR Assistance Center at 888-227-2423; for CCR registration, go to http://www.ccr.gov/Default.aspx. The Government will neither pay for any information received in response to this request nor compensate any respondent for any costs incurred in developing the information provided to the Government.
