- Description
- The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) has issued a cost plus incentive fee (CPIF) contract (N00019-08-C-0058) to Alliant Techsystems Inc. for a supersonic target development program. The contract was awarded on 22 August 2008. The United States Navy has an emergent requirement for a cost effective aerial target system to simulate a multi-stage Anti-Ship Cruise Missile Threat. Target vehicle development will exhibit characteristics of a Subsonic Cruise phase, or stage, followed by a Supersonic Sprint stage. This Target System will be used to support current Fleet training of weapon systems as well as the test and evaluation of ship self-defense systems currently in development. In general terms, the vehicle will be capable of programmable navigation, including terminal weaves, have a range greater than 100 nautical miles, have a subsonic cruising range of greater than 89 nautical miles at 50ft MSL, and attain a minimum sprint speed of 2.2 Mach at 16ft MSL.
