Description
The Edward Hines VA Hospital located at 5000 South 5th Avenue, Hines, IL, and the Jesse Brown VAMC located at 820 South Damen Avenue, Chicago, IL, both require an Autopsy Assistant to perform autopsies on an as needed basis and are paid for at a fixed monthly rate or a fixed cadaver rate. Hines typically performs 30-35 autopsies in a one year period and Jesse Brown typically performs 20-25 autopsies in a one year period. QUALIFICATIONS: Autopsy Assistants shall have two (2) years of college with a science background (no specific courses are required) and skills and experience in anatomy and dissection techniques. Experience level preferred is having performed 25 or more autopsies. Autopsy Assistants are required to be proficient in spoken and written English. GENERAL DUTIES of Autopsy Assistants include: opening the decedent body (head and trunk), dissection of the body per the instructions of the pathologists, maintenance of the gross specimens, closing the decedent body (head and trunk), and maintenance of the morgue and equipment/instruments (cleaning the area in compliance with OSHA requirements for bio-hazardous exposure).
