The following are the Question and Answers for this RFQ. 1.How many units is this / will Peace Corps be purchasing? Peace Corps will be purchasing various quantities of units and replacement parts. It is estimated that the annual 2.Your solicitation requires that the filters last “2.5 years without major repair.” Is changing a filter cartridge every 1000L considered major repair? No, changing a filter cartridge every 1000L is not considered major repair. 3.The RFQ calls for states that “Water Filtration Systems shall filter viruses, bacteria, and parasites, including cryptosporidium and giardia for potable water.” However, the Solicitation also requires that “the water filtration system shall produce potable water and have an Absolute pore size of 1 micron or smaller.” Can a water systems with a filter pore size of 0.2 microns that must be used in combination with a chemical disinfectant (that removes microbes and contaminants by a non-physical exclusion mechanism) meet the requirement? Does adding a chemical viracide after filtering meet an acceptable standard for your applications? As long as the system meets the minimum criteria, it is acceptable for consideration. 4.Also, in the RFQ, you specify that the type of feed water may “vary widely and may include seawater, TDS level, brackish, and contaminated freshwater.” Is it required for the system to treat salt and brackish waters? Would products designed for contaminated freshwater only be of interest, or is desalination a requirement? Refer to RFQ 5.Finally, can the device include a hand pump, or are you focused on gravity-fed units only? The device can use a hand pump. 6.What type of water treatment is currently used by the Peace Corps? Peace Corps uses various types of water filtration systems.
