- Description
- The United States Government Printing Office (GPO) intends to issue a sole source contract to procure a new Unwinder UW-6, manufactured by Hunkeler, to Standard Finishing Systems located at #10 Connector Road, Andover, MA 01810. The Hunkeler Unwinder will replace the end-of-life Lasermax Unwinder that is starting to suffer from bracket failure. The Hunkeler Unwinder will be the second piece of Hunkeler processing equipment affixed to the Oce web-fed printer. The web-fed digital print system at GPO is used to generate the text for two key publications: the Bound Record and the Trademarks. The Unwinder is a critical piece of the web-fed printer system. Without the Unwinder, there is no way to feed paper to the print engines. The we-fed system is comprised of four basic components: the Unwinder, the Print Engines (Oce), the Slitter/Sheeter (Hunkeler), and the Server that drives all three (Oce). In order to minimize the number of different types of manufacturer interfaces, it is essential that the GPO use Hunkeler as the sole source of the Unwinder to "mirror" the Slitter/Sheeter already in place.
