Description

BRAND NAME JUSTIFICATION The new switch installed at the field office (FO) site will act as an expansion switch of the main NEC Telephone switch located at the Martinsburg VAMC. Maintaining the NEC product line will enable continued feature and equipment compatibility, between the main switch as well as two other existing switch nodes located at CBOCs in Hagerstown, MD and Stephens City VA. Switches will use Common Channel Interoffice Signaling (CCIS) technology that will connect the main switch to the nodes. This CCIS connection will provide common full feature capability throughout all systems, providing users with same feature operation between systems. This feature will also allow centralize call accounting capability. The current system includes the following features: call transfer, call pickup, voice mail, four digit intra-station dialing, Least Cost Routing, Personal Identification Numbers, Class of Service Restrictions and Voice over Internet Protocol. Use of another manufacturer other than NEC will jeopardize feature transfer operability between systems or eliminate them totally and create incompatible operating equipment between systems.
