- The Social Security Administration (SSA) plans to acquire Challenge brand Programmable Paper Cutter and Challenge brand Three Spindle Paper Drills. The requirement shall include annual service contracts on all equipment. This equipment will directly replace the existing Challenge MS10 drill press and Challenge Diamond 26" paper cutter with similar industrial level equipment. These machines have been in operation for almost 30 years and parts are no longer available for these models. The main justification for soliciting only Challenge brand manufacturers and vendors is that SSA will save hundreds of dollars in auxiliary parts and consumable supplies from the old Challenge brand equipment that SSA will use with new Challenge equipment. Post installation support and service, requiring factory-trained technicians, is an essential part of this requirement. Interested parties who feel they can provide this requirement may respond by submitting their capability statement via email to Deborah. R. Wilson@ssa.gov by COB August 19, 2008. The information I receive I will consider solely for determining whether to conduct other than a brand name only procurement. This notice does not constitute a solicitation for offers. A determination by the Government not to solicit brand name only equipment for this requirement based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. If I receive no responses by the closing date (8/19/08), the SSA will proceed with the Challenge brand name only solicitation. Vendors must submit all questions and/or submissions to this notice in writing to the email address referenced above. I will not accept telephone calls regarding this notice, nor will I return any. Responses must reference SSA-RFQ-08-1811.
