Description
Under the authority of FAR 6.302-1, the U.S. Army RDECOM Acquisition Center, Natick Contracting Division, Natick, MA intends to award a contract to Z-MEDICA CORPORATION of 4 Fairfield Blvd, Wallingford CT 06492, for the development and testing of a hemostatic agent in penetrating traumatic wounds and in surgical indications deriving from initial injury. This is a 12 month effort. Z-Medica is the only company able to meet this requirement as their hemostatic gauze is unique qualified to meet the requirements of: Able to stop large-vessel arterial and venous bleeding within two minutes of application on the wound, even when applied to an actively bleeding site through a pool of blood (a likely field scenario); Ready to use, with no requirement for mixing or special preparation; Simple to apply by the wounded individual, his buddy, or a medic/emergency medical technician with minimal training required; Lightweight and durable; Stable and functional at room temperature for at least two years and in extreme ambient temperatures (-10 degrees C and 55 degrees C) for several weeks or longer; Safe to use, posing no risk of either injury in the tissue to which it is applied or of bacterial or viral transmission; and Allow for easy removal once the patient is back at a support hospital. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement in the future. Interested parties may identify their interest and capability to respond to this requirement to the U.S. Army RDECOM Acquisition Center, Natick Contracting Division, via e-mail at thomas.bouchard@us.army.mil no later than 22, August 2008, 12:00 pm EST.
