Objectives: •Use optical biosensor technology, based on an analyte-specific binding reaction, as a standard methodlolgy for high-throughput screening and analysis of veterinary drug residues. •Perform biosensor analysis which has the ability to provide rapid screening capabilities for routine chloramphenicol and other drug residue analysis in the field laboratories at the FDA. Methods: Specific information required to be included : •Instrument specifications including liquid handling system, detection principle, sensitivity, baseline drift and noise. •Available sensor chip kits such as for streptomycin and chloramphenicol residues. Detection limits for chloramphenicol in shellfish must be 0.025 ppb or below. •Literature citations demonstrating use of surface plasmon resonance as a detection for the analysis of veterinary drug residues. Reporting Requirements and Deliverables: The successful contract will be required to submit the following items to FDA: 1.A demonstrated biosensor product using surface plasmon resonance detection for the analysis of veterinary drug residues including: 2.Available test kits 3.Analysis procedures 4.Results of data analysis, and 5.Evidence of public dissemination (manuscript publication) Projected outcomes The results of this project will be disseminated to all interested parties in the FDA and in the participating institutions within the registry.
