- Description
- NASA/GRC plans to issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a cryogenically cooleddome structure. The dome will be used as the liquid hydrogen propellant tank surfacesimulator in a thermal development tests planned for a closed compartment in the Ares ICrew Launch Vehicle Upper Stage. It is expected that the propellant tank surfacesimulator will be predominantly constructed of aluminum plate, tubing and seamless pipe. Materials shall conform to applicable ASTM standards. The required surface treatmentwill be of aerospace quality, replicating the primer currently used on the Space Shuttleexternal tank.The general dimensions of this structure are an elliptical dome, 108inches in diameter by 77 inches high. The dome will be supplied with liquid nitrogen toachieve a uniform temperature near 80 Kelvin. The Government does not intend to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12.See Note26.The NAICS Code and Size Standard are 541712 and 1000 employees, respectively. All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency.The anticipated release date of the RFP is on or about August 19, 2008 with ananticipated offer due date of on or about September 19, 2008.An ombudsman has been appointed -- See NASA Specific Note "B".The solicitation and any documents related to this procurement will be available over theInternet. These documents will reside on a World Wide Web (WWW) server, which may beaccessed using a WWW browser application.
