- The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Acquisition Management Division, on behalf of the Electronics and Electrical Engineering Laboratory, intends to negotiate and award a purchase order on a sole source basis under the authority of FAR 13.106(b)(1), to Carl Zeiss MicroImaging, Inc. of Thornwood, NY for service and maintenance for the LSM 520 VIS/META Microscope System. Sole source determination is based on Carl Zeiss MicroImaging, Inc. being the sole manufacturer and sole maintenance provider of the LSM 520 VIS/META Microscope System. Therefore, Carl Zeiss MicroImaging, Inc. is the only source that can provide preventative maintenance for this equipment, as the technology is proprietary to the company. No solicitation package will be issued. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations, however, responses received by August 16, 2007 will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government whether to compete the proposed acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. The resulting Purchase Order will be for one base year and three option years. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 334516, and the size standard is 500. No solicitation package will be issued.
