Description
The Contractor shall provide consultation services, as specified below. The Center for Disability (CD), Social Security Administration (SSA), utilizes the services of medical staff under contract to adjudicate disability cases (as a member of a team), as well as to review disability claims. Reviews are critical to the successful operation of the program. Most case reviews are for the purpose of determining whether disability decisions made by the State Agencies (Disability Determination Services) are in accordance with SSA guidelines. SSA components may also occasionally seek other services such as medical training or medical advice on disability program-related issues. Contract work does not require direct contact with claimants. The contractor will provide the Government written consultations and/or evaluations resulting from the contractor review of SSA disability case files. Services required are as follows: • Review of medical evidence in one’s specialty (or specialties) as identified in the contract; • Review of medical evidence in other specialties in which the contractor is qualified; • Provide for combined or overall evaluation of a case, which encompasses the contractor’s medical review and that of other MCs; • Consultation with the full-time medical staff as it relates to the development of SSA disability policies, including the development of SSA quality control procedures; Participation in the training of other MC contractors and other personnel from SSA Central Offices, SSA Regional Offices, and/or the State Disability Determination Services; and work with Government and non-Government agencies and/or medical or non-medical personnel that have a related interest to provide input regarding SSA programs and its objectives. Consultants must be capable of providing an acceptable, understandable, written document addressing the medical issues relative to the disability program that arise as a result of the contractor’s case reviews. Consultants are expected to maintain a high level of expertise in their specialty or related areas. Seminars and other Continuing Medical Education (CME) are essential and must be scheduled on non-work time. The Contractor shall provide consultation services, as specified below.
