- Description
- The U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), located in Arlington, VA, is seeking eligible sources capable of completing construction on a dam as descrived below.This construction project involves correcting dam safety deficiencies at an existing earth embankment dam titled Visitor Center Dam at Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge near Marion, Illinois. This work includes the following work items:1.Site preparation including clearing, sediment and erosion control, and surface and groundwater water controls.2.Installing and removing a temporary earthfill cofferdam and a diversion pipe.3.Demolishing and removing an existing service spillway and outlet works structure.4.Excavating in the embankment and foundation for the construction of a new service spillway and outlet works structure, filter, and toe drain.5.Removing and stockpiling existing riprap on the upstream slope of the dam.6.Raising and re-grading the embankment dam.7.Constructing a combined low-level outlet works and service spillway structure in the embankment, with all associated gate, pipes, metalwork, and a concrete walk way.8.Reconstructing the embankment around the new structure.9.Furnishing and placing new riprap and bedding on the upstream slope of the dam, and at the inlet and outlets of the new outlet works structure.10.Furnishing and placing aggregate base course on the raised dam crest.11.Installing dam instrumentation.12.Installing concrete fish platforms on the dam (Bid Option).13.Placing a foot trail between the dam and the Visitor Center Building (Bid Option).14.Placing topsoil and reclaiming disturbed areas. THIS SYNOPSIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL. A request for proposal will be posted on www.fedbizopps.gov approximately on July 2, 2008 with drawings and specifications available for download. Tentative award date - August 25, 2008. Tentative construction completion - end of August, 2009.
