- On April 17, 2008, the FAA published an announcement at this web site seeking market data on products that could meet FAA ATO requirement for smart card readers. The FAA received responses from several sources claiming that several different commercial products meet the FAA's stated requirements. The FAA plans to pursue a testing phase to ascertain which of the products actually meet the FAA's requirements. The FAA will be including in this testing phase ONLY those products for which responses had been received in response to the previous announcement. The purpose of the testing is to develop a Qualified Products List for this requirement. Once that has been accomplished, the FAA will publish an additional announcement at this web site requesting offers for Smart Card Readers (on a fixed priced basis). Offerors will be allowed to propose any of the items identified on the Qualified Products List which will be published along with the Request for Offers (RFO). The FAA currently plans to have the testing completed and the RFO issued sometime during the month of June 2008.
