Description
Follow-up FSC 8140 and 8145 Containers On December 5, 2007, Federal Prison Industries, Inc (FPI) posted a notice in the Federal Business Opportunities (FedBizOpps). In this notice, FPI proposed to manufacture shipping and storage containers competitively without using its mandatory source. Shipping and storage containers fall within Federal Supply Classification (FSC) code 8140 - Ammunition and Nuclear Ordnance Boxes, Packages, and Special Containers, and FSC code 8145 - Specialized Shipping and Storage Containers. FPI received one comment from an interested party regarding this proposed production, within the 30 days allowed as stated in the December 5, 2007, FedBizOpps notice. FPI responded to the concerns that the interested party had raised. The comments from the interested party and FPI’s response were forwarded to and reviewed by FPI’s Board of Directors. Following consideration of the submitted documentation, the Board approved FPI’s manufacture of shipping and storage containers as a competitive product. They also mandated that FPI would never add shipping and storage containers to its Schedule of Products as a mandatory source product. In proceeding with its plans, FPI will continue to be sensitive to private sector interests. Interested parties have a right to raise questions at any time with FPI’s Board of Directors. Any correspondence should be addressed to: Chief, Strategic Business Development and Marketing, Federal Prison Industries, Inc., 320 First Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20534. Attention: SBDM Branch.
