- Description
- NASA/LaRC has a requirement to upgrade an existing ultrasonic inspection systemmanufactured by Sonix. This upgrade will enhance the current piece of equipment to thelatest state-of-art instrument and software. NASA/LaRC intends to purchase the items from Sonix, Inc., who is the only known sourcecapable of providing unique upgrades which must be compatible to the current ultrasonicinspection system. Sonix's control software and hardware is proprietary to their company.It would take substantial duplication of time and Government resources for anothercompany to offer a similar product that would meet this requirement, which is notexpected to be recovered through competition. Sole Source authority is FAR 13.106. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12.Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform theeffort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. local timeon April 30, 2008. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for thepurpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and opencompetition basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretionof the government.Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice.All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency.An Ombudsman has been appointed.
