- The U. S. Naval War College has a requirement for a one-year membership in the Santa Fe Institute, a non-profit research organization that uses multidisciplinary collaboration to study behavior and structure of complex systems, with emphasis on complex systems that exhibit adaptation and learning. Santa Fe Institute's research into computer simulation systems builds on a broad base of studies in complex adaptive systems. The simulation programs, and more general computational approaches, are built on the concept of adaptive agents capable of learning in response to experience. Many of the approaches incorporate processes that mimic biological systems and organisms, including mutation, generic crossover, evolution and co-evolution, and differential retention of successful genotypes. Areas of work include use of genetic algorithms, classifier systems, neural networks, genetic programming and other related machine learning methods. This award will provide CNO-Strategic Studies Group (CNO-SSG) participation in the Santa Fe Institute Business Network for Complex Systems Research for a period of one year. Naval War College representatives will participate in research visits, workshops, technical meetings and seminars, and receive copies of working papers and books resulting from these research programs. This purchase is considered sole source to Santa Fe Institute. Therefore, no solicitation will result from this announcement.
