Description
Project Description: The purpose of this reclamation project is to limit human and environmental exposure to the contaminants-of-concern, reduce the mobility of these contaminants, and to mitigate impacts to the local surface water and groundwater resources near the Black Bear, Gray Lead, and Unnamed Mines. The work will consist of, but is not necessarily limited to, providing all labor, materials, earthwork, and incidentals necessary to construct new roads, improve existing access roads; excavate, transport and dispose of approximately 5,000 cubic yards of waste materials to the Luttrell Repository near the former Basin Creek Mine in Jefferson County; backfill waste excavation areas; replace and install culverts; dispose of debris, construct French drains and diversion ditches, regrade, install erosion control mat, and seed, fertilize, and mulch all disturbed areas. This work requires handling of mine waste which contains metals that are listed as hazardous substances under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) 42 U.S.C. 9601 and 9602. Project Location: The Mines are located on the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest west of Basin, Montana in Jefferson County. The sites are accessible from Basin, Montana by Forest Service (F.S.) Road Nos. 172, 660, and 1571. The work sites lie at elevations between 7,200 and 8,200 feet. Pre-bid Tour: A pre-bid tour will be held on Thursday 18 October 2007 at 10:00AM. Those interested in attending the pre-bid tour should take I-15 to the Basin exit and meet at the Historical Marker right off the Interstate. Please bring your own ATV due to the steepness of the road/limited access to the job sites. Cost Range: Between $500,000 and $1,000,000. The solicitation will be available on approximately 1 February 2008 and can be downloaded from this site at that time.
