Description
TECHNOLOGY/BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY PLATO Software An Associative Database Management System Opportunity: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), operated by the University of California under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is offering the opportunity to license and commercialize LLNL?s PLATO Software. Background:. Plato is a desktop application that was designed to manage complex relationships between requirements in multiple contract documents used for design and contruction. In addition, it was designed to deliver the information in a variety of formats: formatted documents, database records, drawing keynotes, or other custom formats as the need arose. In its current version it is a general purpose application that can be adapted to almost any use. General purpose, content management ?thinking tools? such as Plato are rare in the marketplace, particularly in the desktop arena. Similar technologies have included Lotus Agenda and Ecco, and currently include UltraRecall and Zoot, but Plato?s functionality is unique. Description: Plato is a general purpose, associative database management system with which users can discover and manage relationships within data, as well as deliver formatted data in nearly any variety of markup relationships within data, as well as deliver formatted data in nearly any variety of markup language (e.g., XML, HTML, RTF, TeX, etc.). Advantages: Features include user-definable database record templates; user-definable parsers for flexible data imports; user-definable scripts for flexible data output; and fast, simple associative modeling with bi-directional cross referencing and user-definable link types. Potential Applications: PLATO can run on any Pentium-class PC running Windows 98, 2000, XT, XP; 512 MB is the minimum memory recommended. Development Status: LLNL has filed for copyright registration. LLNL is seeking industry partners with a demonstrated ability to bring such inventions to the market. Moving critical technology beyond the Laboratory to the commercial world helps our licensees gain a competitive edge in the marketplace. All licensing activities are conducted under policies relating to the strict nondisclosure of company proprietary information. Please visit the IPAC website at http://www.llnl.gov/IPandC/workwithus/partneringprocess.php for more information on working with LLNL and the industrial partnering and technology transfer process. Note: THIS IS NOT A PROCUREMENT. Companies interested in commercializing LLNL's PLATO Software should provide a written statement of interest, which includes the following: 1. Company Name and address. 2. The name, address, and telephone number of a point of contact. 3. A description of corporate expertise and facilities relevant to commercializing this technology. Written responses should be directed to: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Industrial Partnerships and Commercialization P.O. Box 808, L-795 Livermore, CA 94551-0808 Attention: FBO 158-07 Please provide your written statement within thirty (30) days from the date this announcement is published to ensure consideration of your interest in LLNL's PLATO Software.
