- The US Fish and Wildlife Service at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge have a requirement for Russian Olive Eradication, NAICS 541320, Small Business Size Standard $5,000,000 Contractor will treat Russian olive (Elaeagnus angustifolia L.) through the use of foliar and injection application techniques (see Application Methods section) on approximately 1,200 acres. Infestations are widespread and sporadic throughout the treatment area. Tree sizes vary from seedlings to mature trees. This project will be very labor intensive, requiring hand treatment of individual plants. Russian olive is a fast growing tree of moderate size. Originally introduced as an ornamental shade tree, it provides excellent habitat cover but becomes a serious weed problem in low-lying pastures, meadows, and waterways. Russian olive spread onto refuge lands from neighboring meadows following the flooding of Malheur Lake in the 1980s. It is a prolific seed producer and has spread at an alarming rate in the last 10 years. Solicitation closes 9/6/2007 at 4:00 pm.
