- The Washington Headquarters Services (WHS), Acquisition and Procurement Office (APO), intends to award a Firm-Fixed Price sole source delivery order from GSA Contract Number GS-07-F-8897D for a Model 101 XLZ X-Ray Inspection System to American Science &Engineering (AS&E). The Government will purchase one Model 101 XLZ X-Ray machine. PFPA Security Services Directorate requires the ability to inspect all packages prior to entering into the Pentagon via the Remote Delivery Facility. PFPA requires a X-Ray machine with Backscatter. Backscatter detects the very organic/plastic threats including plastic and ceramic weapons, plastic explosives and fluids very often missed in a transmission dual energy X-ray system. Pentagon security must be able to detect with high reliability not only metals (inorganic) but plastic (organic) based threats as well. PFPA has established the use of combination transmission and backscatter X-ray technology as its primary detection systems. AS&E's backscatter X-ray inspection systems are patented and can only be supplied by them.
