Description
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Coordinating Center for Infectious Disease (CCID), Division of Viral and Rickettsial Diseases (DVRD), Infectious Disease Pathology Branch (IDPB), Pathology laboratories are at the forefront of the agency's work in responding to public health threats posed by various infectious disease agents. IDPB is currently home to an internationally recognized, multidisciplinary team that provides expertise in molecular pathology, histopathology, and ultra structural analysis for detecting microbial agents and studying the pathogenesis of infectious diseases. Through the application of classic and evolving new technologies, the IDPB team has made significant contributions to advancing the understanding the pathogenesis and epidemiology of emerging infectious diseases. As subject matter experts IDPB is at the forefront of the use of immunohistochemistry in the diagnosis of infectious diseases and has evaluated many instruments throughout the years. Thus, to the best of our knowledge only Thermo Fisher Scientific instrument fulfills our requirements and needs to respond to our responsibility to the agency in responding to various public health threats. Thermo Fisher offers the only IHC stainer on the market where 2 or more units work off the same computer. This characteristic is required to enhance work flow as well as for better use of valuable laboratory space. Also, this stainer has a pre-treatment module integrated on the machine which will allow for total automation of the entire staining process. This characteristic is required for EID and BT test assays where pre-treatment is used to enhance the sensitivity. Thermo Fisher Scientific's autostainer is the only autostainer on the market that offers network capability, integrates with existing technology, and is equipped with a pre-treatment module. Therefore, Thermo Fisher Scientific is considered to be sole source IAW/FAR 6.302-1 and award of a Firm-Fixed Price Purchase Order in accordance with FAR Part 13 is contemplated to it. However, CDC will consider all responsible sources responding to the RFQ. All questions/concerns about the RFQ shall be submitted via e-mail to Bbiltz@cdc.gov ONLY. The RFQ document will be available and posted at this site for downloading. No telephone requests of the solicitation will be accepted. No hard copy of the RFQ will be mailed. It is your responsibility to keep up with additional postings regarding the RFP on the Fedbizopps website.
