- Description
- The USDA, Agricultural Research Service, Grain Marketing & Production Research Center, Manhattan, Kansas, intends to enter into a sole source contract with Perten Instruments, Inc., Springfield, Illinois, for the purchase of one Perten SKNIR (Single Kernel NIR) Infrared System to automatically measure NIR spectra of single wheat kernels and make a four-way separation of kernels based on user-defined calibrations. This system can measure protein content, waxy character, internal insects, and hardness of single kernels non-destructively. This instrument is necessary to support work with breeders to select kernels with specific traits for breeding lines. The kernel singulator was patented by ERU (5,082,141 - Device for singulating particles, 1992 by Martin, Rousser and Brabec and Perten Instruments has licensed this patent from Agricultural Research Service. *Provide Qualification Statement by Close of Business August 28, 2007, if interested in this procurement.
