Description
This is a stewardship project that involves a combination of thinning and fuel reduction treatments to create a lateral shaded fuelbreak. The Contractor shall provide all labor, equipment, materials, supplies (except kraft paper to cover piles), and supervision to complete the project by December 31, 2009. Approximately 86 acres is to be treated with a combination of commercial thinning (by ground-based equipment), pre-commercial thinning, cutting understory vegetation, pruning, hand piling, and mastication. Some treatments may take place in lieu of other treatments; for example, mastication may take place in lieu of hand piling and cutting understory vegetation in some areas. Fireline construction (handline) will be considered as an optional treatment. Approximately 2.95 miles of road maintenance will be required. Commercial timber to be removed has been designated by blue paint. Where required, leave trees have been designated by orange paint. The Contractor will be responsible for selecting cut trees in the pre-commercial thin units. LOCATION: The Van Duzen Thinning and Fuel Reduction Stewardship Project is located on the Mad River Ranger District, Six Rivers National Forest in northern California, Trinity County. PREPROPOSAL CONFERENCE: A pre-proposal conference will be held at 9:00 a. m. on August 21 2007, at the Mad River Ranger Station located on State Hwy 36 (about 95 miles west from Red Bluff, CA; about 48 miles east of Fortuna, CA.). Attendees should bring lunch, water, and proper gear for viewing the site. The Project Area can be accessed by 2WD and is about 10 minutes from the Ranger Station. At the conclusion of the field trip there will be time allowed to discuss technical proposal preparation with attendees. No performance bond will be required. Interested parties will need to be registered in Central Contractor?s Registration (CCR) and On-Line Representations and Certifications Application (ORCA). Any amendments to the solicitation will be posted on this site also.
