- NASA/GRC has a requirement for a 9" diameter, 2,200 lbs. minimum weight extrusion of NASA disk superalloy LSHR. NASA/GRC intends to purchase the item from Special Metals Powder Division, 100 Industry Lane, Princeton, KY. Prior investment with Special Metals Powder Division in processing, heat treating, machining and testing of this superalloy material including a proprietary process that minimizes non-metallic inclusions while maximizing yield of the specified superalloy powder has produced a very large database which will be extended with the new material purchased here. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m., EST, on August 9, 2007. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretion of the government.
