PLEASE DO NOT CALL OR EMAIL INQUIRIES REGARDING THE SOLICITATION UNTIL IT HAS BEEN POSTED. The National Park Service (NPS) - New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park (NEBE) has a requirement for a project coodinator/scholar for several ethnohistory projects. The duties of the Research Coordinator/Scholar will be directly associated with research studies designed to develop ethnohistorical information about the ancestors of the contemporary Native Americans, Azoreans, Cape Verdeans and African-Americans (of African and West Indian ancestry) and their participation in the whaling industry of New Bedford. A study of Cape Verdeans and Azoreans is underway under a separate contract, while proposals for research into Native Americans, African-Americans and West Indians are being solicited concurrently with the position of Research/Coordinatior/Scholar. The successful applicant will play a primary role to ensure that data collection among the concurrent investigations is carried out in a coordinated and integrated manner to maximize the overall productivity of historical ethographic data colllection while maximizing duplication of effort among the separate investigations. The Research Coordinator/Scholar shall also be responsible for developing introductory and concluding essays that will distill the specific research results in an integrated manner and situate the finding within the broader social, economic and geographical context of New Bedford and, as appropriate, the larger surrounding region.
