Description
Amendment No. 01 provides the following: 1) Answers to questions received in response to the subject solicitation: Question 1: Can you provide a brief list of possible analytes of interest for analysis on this system? Answer: In addition to doing isotope and/or speciation work on nutrients (N, P) and carbon compounds, the system must be capable of analyzing a set of compounds that are now being referred to as "Emerging Contaminants". These compounds include a large number of pharmaceutically active compounds, endocrine disruptors, and pesticides. A recent, as yet unpublished study, reviews published analytical techniques for 304 of the most common "Emerging Contaminant" compounds and performed molecular modeling on classes of those compounds to determine appropriate analytical procedures for them. The results of those studies indicate that 30% of the compounds of interest would be best analyzed for by GC-MS/MS and 70% would be best analyzed for by LC-MS/MS, but that neither analytical technique alone would be effective for all of the compounds of interest. Question 2: Will the system be operated mainly in GC or LC mode? Or will you be switching frequently during the day? Answer: Due to the possibility of degradation of the compounds of interest, samples must be run as soon as they are received from the field. Since 70% of the compounds of interest will be run in LC and 30% will be run in GC, the system will need to be switched at least daily by laboratory personnel. It is important that this operation not take more than one-half hour. Question 3: How many samples per week would you be analyzing? (i.e., is this a high throughput system?). The answer to this would affect which LC unit would be more effective. Answer: We anticipate 100-200 compounds per week for our own purposes, but already have requests from collaborators to participate in further studies. Therefore a high-throughput capability is necessary. Question 4: Is the LC provided as part of the total cost? If so, is it also a demonstration unit or new? Answer: Yes, the LC and LC autosampler is included as part of the cost. In addition, the GC unit must be capable of fully interfacing with an autosampler we currently own (CombiPal G6500-CTC with SPME Upgrade G6504-CTC, Control software G3384AA), or it must include a GC autosampler capable of performing liquid, headspace, and SMPE injections. We are looking for a Demonstration Unit for all components. The demonstration unit shall have not more than 100 hours of usage. 2) This requirement is corrected from a Small Business Set=Aside to Unrestricted. 2) THE DATE SPECIFIED FOR RECEIPT OF OFFERS REMAINS JULY 23, 2007.
