- The Southern Regional Research Center Agricultural Research Service, U.S.D.A. is seeking bids for a Drawframe as a means of providing sliver from short laps of carded cotton. Research Objectives: There is a need for a drawframe to produce drawn sliver as part of the sequence of processes used to convert small quantities of cotton fiber into yarn, commonly described as the Microspinning process. Typically quantities of 50 to 100 grams of cotton are handled, as part of the evaluation of fibers harvested from cotton plants under development for possible release as a cultivar. Technical Specifications Required: 1.) A means to accept feedstock in the form of sliver rather than roving, preferably wound on a drum. 2.) A multi roller drafting system with at least two drafting zones capable of handling a range of cotton staples. 3.) A means of delivering the sliver onto a drum that will be accepted by the spinning machine, or provide the sliver for a second passage through the drawframe. 4.) Sufficient adjustment of total drafts from 4.0 to 12.0, by either mechanical or electronic means. All systems and components shall be provided with a 1-year warranty from the date of installation. The warranty shall cover all system parts against manufacturing defect or failure during normal service covering service labor and travel expenses.
