This shoulder has curvic splines cut in them for mounting adjacent wheels to each other. Cooling air passages are provided in the rear shoulder of the 3rd stage wheel. The outer rims of the wheel are broached for mounting 3rd stage turbine blade. There are 89 3rd stage turbine blades installed on the 3rd stage turbine wheel. A cover plate sear is used on the front and rear sides of the theel to retain the 1st stage turbine blades in the wheel.
