- The Defense Distribution Center currently has a requirement for EPC Global GEN2 Passive RFID (pRFID) compliant thermal transfer tag/label printers. Under guidance from senior DOD and DLA staff, the DDC is pursuing a full deployment for internal and external use of passive RFID (pRFID) functionality at all DDC depots. To gain maximum return on investment (ROI), through the use of pRFID, the DDC is proposing that pRFID labels be phased in to replace the internal tracking and identification labels now critical for the DLA standard highly automated warehouse management system (WMS), Distribution Standard System (DSS). It is expected that the pRFID labels will significantly improve accuracy and speed of processing through the depots? automated WMS. It is also expected that transshipments from and to the DDC CCP, MPC and TCSP processes, forward positioning functions as well as DDC forward facilities to have efficiency improved markedly by use of the pRFID tags in the internal tracking documents. To meet the objectives stated above, the pRFID labels will need to be printed on a DSS standard architecture pRFID printer. The government intends to issue a request for proposals for an estimated 3,000 pRFID printers and related products such as cutters and rewinders. The printers and related products will be used for the following Defense Distribution Centers: Defense Distribution Center San Diego, CA (DDDC) Defense Distribution Center Hill, UT (DDHU) Defense Distribution Center San Joaquin, CA (DDJC) Defense Distribution Center Jacksonville, FL (DDJF) Defense Distribution Center Norfolk, VA (DDNV) Defense Distribution Center Oklahoma, OK (DDOO) Defense Distribution Center Puget Sound, WA (DDPW) Defense Distribution Center Red River, TX (DDRT) Defense Distribution Center Susquehanna, PA (DDSP) Defense Distribution Center Warner Robins, GA (DDWG) Defense Distribution Center Pearl Harbor, HI (DDPH) Defense Distribution Center Europe, Germersheim, GE (DDDE) Defense Distribution Center Guam Marianas (DDGM) Defense Distribution Center Korea (DDDK) Defense Distribution Center Kuwait Southwest Asia (DDKS) Defense Distribution Center Sigonella, Italy (DDSI) Defense Distribution Center Yokosuka, Japan (DDYJ) Defense Distribution Center Sasebo, Japan (DDYJ) The government intends to award an indefinite delivery indefinite quantity contract for a period of five years to accomplish the procurement and delivery of the printers referenced above. This is an unrestricted acquisition. The applicable NAICs code is 334119. The size standard is 1,000 employees. All interested and responsible parties may submit a proposal that will be considered by the Defense Distribution Center. The solicitation number is SP3100-07-R-0023, and it will be posted to the Federal Business Opportunities Website on or about June 12, 2007.
