Description
The National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD) Coordinating Center for Infectious Diseases (CCID), Influenza Division (ID), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) supports a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Surveillance, Epidemiology, and Control of Influenza, to present to the FDA and the vaccine manufacturers twice yearly the seed viruses that are to be used in the production of influenza vaccine for the Northern Hemisphere and the Sothern Hemisphere. The FDA requires that the viruses be grown exclusively in eggs, because tissue culture may contain latent viruses that might be detrimental to the vaccinees. The Influenza Division also has the responsibility of producing 500 WHO Influenza Reagent Kits for the identification of influenza isolates. Each year the Influenza Division will also produce supplemental non human influenza reagent kits. Lastly, eggs are also used throughout the year for research purposes. The three activities noted above result in the usage of between 14,000 and 17,000 dozen eggs per year. The CDC is searching for Contractors who can furnish 14,000 to 17,000 dozen white embryonated 10 day old chicken eggs per year that will be used singularly and in conjunction with various tissue culture systems for the isolation of influenza viruses. The contractor shall guarantee that a minimum of 95 percent of the white fertile chicken eggs be viable at delivery. If possible, all white fertile chicken eggs furnished shall be from a single flock, and all flocks from which eggs are furnished shall meet the requirements of the National Poultry Improvement Plan of 1963, after testing by an official of the appropriate State Agency and shall qualify for the rating, "U.S. Pullorum-Typhoid Clean". Eggs shall be free of bacterial, fungal or mycoplasmal contamination. Eggs shall weigh a minimum of 23-25 ounces per dozen and shall not be washed, dipped, fumigated, buffed, or cleaned in any manner but shall be smooth, free from blemishes, cracks, fecal material and pencil or other markings. If you can provide white fertile chicken eggs as described herein, please contact the contract specialist with your firm name; address; voice and email contact information; alternate NAICS Code, if applicable; and business size. If a small business, identify specific classification and basis for business size determination, annual revenue or number of employees.
