- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region VII intends to issue an Invitation for Bid for the remediation of mining wastes under Operable Unit 01 (OU1) of the Oronogo-Duenweg Mining Belt Site (Jasper County). The selected remedial alternative generally consists of removal and disposal of mining wastes and surface soils contaminated with heavy metals. The primary contaminants of concern are lead, cadmium and zinc. The site includes mining wastes in and around 11 former mining areas located within about 270 square miles of Jasper and Newton Counties, and encompasses a large part of the Missouri portion of the Tri-State Mining district. Today, approximately 10 million tons of waste remain on the site, scattered over 7,000 acres. THIS PROCUREMENT WILL ADDRESS APPROXIMATELY 150 ACRES OF THE SITE. The contrzctor shall be required to comply with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Remediation shall be conducted pursuant to the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), as amended by the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA), and National Contingency Plan (NCP) requirements. These services shall be performed in Jasper County, Missouri. EPA anticipates issuing a firm fixed price contract with performance incentives for these services. Estimated dollar value for this procurment is $2.5M. The IFB is anticipated to be issued on or about July 9, 2007. The IFB will be posted at: www.epa.gov/oam/regions/index.htm .
