- Robot Automatic Fiber Test System Presolicitation Notice No. AG-7B31-07-0005 The U.S. Department of Agriculture, ARS, MSA, Southern Regional Research Center (SRRC), New Orleans, Louisiana intends to procure a Robot Automatic Fiber Test System. This system is needed to perform research and investigations on the key cotton fiber properties, from both fundamental and applied perspectives, in support of the U.S. cotton industry. The Robot Automatic Fiber Test System will allow the measurement of key fiber properties on a large set of individual cotton fibers. Due to the large number of cotton fibers that will be individually tested for each cotton sample (several hundreds, at a minimum), a robotic system that interfaces with the testing unit will be required. The system shall have the capability to simultaneously perform measurements of fineness, crimp/convolution, and key fiber mechanical properties (e.g., strength, elongation) as well as cycling/hysteresis tests. The system shall include the base testing instrument, crimp/convolution unit; automatic sample feed robot unit, and operational-testing-computation-graphics software. This system shall be installed/set-up delivery FOB to the USDA, ARS, SRRC, New Orleans, La. An IFB with complete specification requirements will be issued on or about July 5, 2007 with bids being due at 2:00 p.m. (CST). August 5, 2007.
