Description
Proposals are being sought for the Wolf Stewardship Project. This project is located on the Newport Ranger District of the Colville National Forest. This project involves timber removal (thinning) approx 300 CCF, pre commercial thinning 78 acres, whip felling 27 acres, hand/machine piling 78 acres, mastication of slash 32 acres, noxious weed spraying 32 acres and installation of traffic barriers 12 each. The Contractor shall furnish all labor, equipment, supervision, transportation, supplies (except those designated as Government-furnished), and all incidentals to perform all work necessary on the areas specified. All aspects of the work shall be performed in an organized systematic manner. Restoration objectives for the project area are summarized as follows: to reduce the threat of severe wildfire within the Project Area using a combination of tree thinning, piling, burning and slash grinding (mastication). Utilize Timber Resources- Provide wood resource to forest product industry. To accomplish these objectives, the contract includes the following components: Mechanical thinning and removal of commercial sized trees, hand thinning and whip felling of pre-commercial sized trees, hand/machine piling or mastication of all slash created by operations. Work can begin in summer/fall of 2007 based on contractors approved schedule. All work shall be completed by December 31, 2008. Boundaries and Project location- All Timber Removal Units are tagged with blue boundary tags and painted with vertical orange painted stripes. General directions to the project area are as follows: From Newport, Washington travel north on Highway 20 approximately ? mile project located on both sides of Highway 20 the east portion of the project can be accessed by heading north of Warren Avenue and going approximately 3/4 mile to trailhead. The west portion of the project can be accessed by heading north from Newport Ranger Station and turning left at Larch Street which turns into Lauralhurst Drive at the next right follow it approximately ? mile to project area. See attached maps for project units and work site locations. A site visit / pre-proposal meeting is scheduled for July 6, 2007 at 9 am. Timber Harvest Performance bond is required. The project is a small business set aside. NAICS code is 113310 with small business size of 500 or fewer employees.
