Description
The Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Mike Monoroney Aeronautical Center, Product Services Division Division, AML-4000; Navigation/Landing/Weather Product Division, AML-7000; and Automation/Communication Product Division, AML-8000 have a requirement for the acquisition of approximately 96 Teknion Leverage and Expansion Furniture Systems workstations and related products(refer typicals); in support of their mission in the National Airspace System (NAS). National Industry Classification System (NAICS) code is 337214. Based upon the requiring offices' justification for single source-brand name acquisition; In accordance with Acquisition Management Policy 3.2.2.4, it is in the best interest of the FAA to procure the FAA Logistics Center (AML) furniture from a single source in order to meet time constraints and maintain standardization throughout the organization. Through a market survey and a technical evaluation conducted in March 2006, only one source was found to satisfy all the technical requirements. Due to the number of competing projects in the FAA Logistics Center as well as throughout the MMAC, furniture products must already be procured and ready to install when the project is complete. When this does not occur, there is a domino effect which impacts the new space and vacated space for the employee, manager, organization, and the MMAC overall. These impacts are further compounded by the organization's ability to meet their mission and goals. In February 2006, a full and open solicitation was conducted through the Office of Acquisition Services to provide potential offerors the opportunity to bid on major furniture contract. Six offerors provided their manufacturer's product. Of these six offerors, the evaluation team determined that Teknion Furniture Products meets all of the technical specifications for best value procurement. This procurement will be utilizing components identical to the existing contract and will maintain standardization of the furniture specifications and existing warranties. With timing comes the need for standardization. Due to the sheer volume of projects that are ongoing throughout the Logistics Center, it is equally important to standardize furniture with Teknion products. There are a number of benefits AML receives from standardization that are substantial. The most critical factor is the 24" requirement to separate power and data for powered systems furniture. According to FAA Standard, powered systems furniture must have 24" separation between power and data. Teknion's product meets this requirement for system furniture and it has been a proven product in a number of applications. Teknion top data channels will accommodate a maximum of 60 CAT 5 cables for future expansion, which we did not find in other manufacturer products. The FAA herein announces its intention to award a Firm Fixed Price Type Contract to Teknion LLC. This notice is for informational purposes for Minority, Women-Owned and Disadvantaged Business Enterprises: DOT, Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (SADBU), has a program to assist small businesses, small businesses owned and controlled by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals, and women-owned concerns to acquire short-term working capital assistance for transportation-related contracts.
