The Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate, Rome NY intends to solicit and negotiate a sole source purchase order under the authority of FAR 6.302-1 with Mercury Computer Systems Inc, 199 Riverneck Road, Chelmsford MA 01824-2820 for the purchase of six (6) Mercury Dual Cell Processors. Though this notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations, information received within 14 days after date of publication of the solicitation will be considered by the Government. SOLE SOURCE JUSTIFICATION: The 1U 3.2 GHz Dual-Cell Based System from Mercury Computer Systems is adaptable technology based on the Cell Broadband Engine processor. The technology significantly improves performance for computationally intense high performance computing applications. AFRL/IFEC has identified this component as the only dual cell processor that meets the technical requirements for parallel processing and integration with the current configuration of the Advanced Wideband Processor while also reducing space and weight. The Mercury Dual 3.2 GHz Processor provides 1 GB of XDR memory, 1U high, 2 GigE, and 2 full size PCIe expansion slots. At this time Mercury Computer Systems Inc is the only known source that manufactures and distributes Dual 3.2 GHz Cell Processors which meet the government's requirements to support the Advanced Wideband Processor.
