Description
The Aviation Integration Directorate (AID), U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command, is seeking sources who have the capability to bend large diameter tubing in small quantities of production to support Research and Development efforts. It is the Gov ernments intention to provide all materials for bending and provide bending specifications and/or drawings/sketches. The Contractor must be capable of taking extruded tubing (shapes and round) and bending it into complex curves per Government specificati ons and/or drawings/sketches. Specifically, the Contractor must be able to bend aircraft grade steel and aluminum round tubing of up to ? inch wall thickness, up to a 4 inch outer diameter while maintaining specified tolerances and product repeatability. Additionally, the company must have the ability to finish the product with powder-coat, hard-coat anodize or other commercial grade finish. The Contractor must be willing to execute all orders using electronic drawings files, paper drawings/sketches, and written instruction; to produce single item prototypes which may or may not be followed by small production runs (the maximum estimated production run will be approximately 30 items.); to work with the Government on quick turn around of products as short as two weeks from receipt of order; and must be within a ? day of driving distance (no more than 325 road miles) from Fort Eustis, Virginia to facilitate short notice and frequent face-to-face Government-Contractor interaction on technical aspects, materia l delivery and/or product receipt. Interested firms should provide (1) a summary statement of their capability to meet technical and geographic requirements outline above, (2) a statement of willingness to work multiple prototypes prior to small quantity productions of 10-20, (3) a description of their process for bending large diameter (up to 4) steel and aluminum tubing. Specifically, (a) how is tube outer and inner diameter maintained and what are their achievable tolerances? (b) How is the proper sha pe confirmed and repeatability achieved? (c) What guidelines are used for maximum bend radius? (d) Tube size, wall thickness and material demonstrated capability summary. (4) Examples (imagers, description) of past large diameter steel or aluminum tube ben ding products. (5) Technical POC for additional information. Interested Contractors should provide a Summary of Capability to the Aviation Integration Directorate (AID), AMCOM (ATTN: Linda Whitlock), Building 401, Lee Boulevard, Fort Eustis, VA 23604-5577 or fax at 757-878-6159. For questions regarding this requir ement, contact Linda Whitlock, Contract Specialist, at 757-878-0156 or e-mail at lwhitlock@aatd.eustis.army.mil.
