Description
The Office of the Product Manager Crew Served Weapons at the Armament Research Development and Engineering Center, Picatinny, NJ is currently seeking sources for the availability of a non-developmental 40mm close-in antipersonnel cartridge that is compatible with the M203 Grenade Launcher. The cartridge must be fired quickly without precise aiming and have a high probability of producing casualties within the operational range. The following characteristics/information are desired for current products: A. Description of cartridge a. Principles of function b. Pictures of cartridge, projectile and sub-projectiles c. Dimensions, weights, and specifications of the sub-projectiles. i. Maximum cartridge length should be 5.27 inches or less d. Documentation showing the maximum and expected muzzle velocity of the sub projectiles when fired from the M203 at zero and at 30m. B. Information showing that the cartridge will safely and reliably function the standard M203 Grenade Launcher System; without modification. a. Actual M203 Grenade Launcher test data is desired and should show function and that the cartridge ejects with no extraction issues b. Information showing that the cartridge safely and reliably operates in the entire band of conditions (-65 degrees F to +165 degrees F, 95%humidity)is desired c. Information showing how the propellant and all other energetics used in the cartridge comply with and are already part of the U.S. Army approved propellant list d. Information showing the maturity of the cartridge design (number of cartridges built to this design, number of cartridges of this design that have been in tests) C. Accuracy information a. the average number of sub-projectile impacts that are obtained within a 36 inch diameter circle at 10m and at 30m i. Please include the number of tests that were run to obtain this value D. Gelatin Penetration information a. Penetration documentation showing the average number of sub- projectiles which will (each) penetrate to a depth of 12 inches or more) in calibrated 10% ballistic gelatin (dimensions of the frontal face of the block no more than 8???x8??? and no longer than 18???) at a range 30m. i. Gelatin shots should include information that shows what the block temperature was before and just after the shot. Along with BB calibration depths. ii. Gelatin block shall not be backed up with non-gelatin. iii. Residual velocities of sub-projectiles are encouraged for penetrations over 18??? for informational purposes only. b. Documentation showing the maximum range that the projectile will reliably penetrate 12 inches of calibrated 10% ballistic gelatin. i. Gelatin shots should include information that shows what the block temperature was before and just after the shot. Along with BB calibration depths. All responsible interested sources are encouraged to submit their capabilities and qualification data in regard to the above no later than thirty (30) days from the date of publication of this notice. All information is to be submitted at no cost or obligation to the Government. Please include company name, address, telephone number, technical point of contact, brochures/literature, not to exceed 25 pages. This is a market survey for informational and planning purposes only and should not be construed as a request for proposal (RFP) or a commitment by the U.S. Government.
