Description
This notice announces the intent to proceed with this project as described. Original posting dated 10/19/2006 was to alert potential bidders to visit the site prior to inclement weather. Please note, the title of this project is changed to Construction of Ship Mountain Lookout. There will be no demolition associated with this project. This project involves the construction of a new Fire Lookout on Ship Mountain. Ship Mountain is located on the Smith River National Recreation Area, the northernmost district of the Six Rivers National Forest. The lookout is a two story structure that includes a lookout cab on the second floor and a storage area on the first floor. In addition to the base bid for the construction of the lookout, there are two additive bid items. The additive bid items include improving the parking area and providing and installing a prefabricated toilet building. Two arial view photos of the project will be posted on this site. The estimated start work date is June 1, 2007. Access to the site is limited during the wet season due to road closures to prevent the spread of Port Orford cedar root disease. Questions about road access can be directed to Curtis Cross at (707) 441-3508 or Diane Bales at (707) 441-3632. LOCATION OF WORK: The site may be accessed by traveling approximately 10 miles east of Gasquet on Highway 199 and turning south onto Little Jones Creek Road (17N05 Jawbone). Travel approximately 10 miles to a three-way intersection, pass straight through the intersection, and continue another 7.3 miles to a spur road on the right. PREBID TOUR: The Forest Service will conduct a pre-bid meeting on Wednesday, May 2, 2007. Contractors shall meet at the Forest Service office in Gasquet, CA at 10:00 a.m. After meeting at the district office and if road access is available, the Forest Service will lead contractors to the project site.
